Norbit - Final Thoughts

How bad was this Eddie Murphy movie? Well let’s say if you watch this movie the only time you’ll smile is when the credits are rolling. That, or if you start remembering all the awesome movies and stand-up shows this once-hilarious comedian was in. In fact if you do the later you’ll probably start crying when you realize the good ol’ days of the sharp, witty comedies are now over and we’re forced to disgust rubbish, such as Norbit.
Put on your diving suits Bucket Heads as we take one final dip into the heap of crap that was Norbit!
The Loathes:
It’s the same old typical comedy movie that has been done 1,000,000 times. The only difference this movie had was that Eddie Murphy played a mega fat cow. Everything was so predictable that you could have just picked up the DVD cover, read the plot on the back and figured it out for yourself. I really wish people who stop using this damn template for comedy movies and just do something original for once. Is it so hard to freakin’ ask!?
Eddie Murphy was a funny guy and it really shows just how much his comedy has changed completely. This movie was not funny and relied heavily on very stupid humor that I did not find funny at all. I can’t remember at one point of the movie that I even chuckled at. It was a really painful experience to watch and actually made me get upset knowing how awesome comedy movies used to be. Coming from Murphy I would have expected for it to be a bit edgy but nowadays the last movie he had that had a bit of “edge” in it was Shriek, the first movie not the others.
That another thing about Eddie Murphy’s recent movies – all the characters he plays now are the same damn characters we’ve all seen in the past. Norbit is the same character from Bowfinger, Rasputia pretty much based off the entire Klump family from The Nutty Professor and Mr. Wong is just Murphy showing everyone he can act as another stereotype besides black people. By the way, the black and Asian communities slammed Murphy for stereotyping both races – go figure.
The amount of times Rasputia said “How YOU Doin!?” so was damn annoying I wanted to murder someone. It was said so damn much! I can’t even count the amount of times that line was repeated over and over and over and over and over and over… you get the point. It really annoys me when a character says or does something “funny” and it gets watered down so much you groan and sigh and punch yourself in the face every time you hear it.
The Likes:
I thought the costumes and make up were very well done. Rasputia looked hideous and when she was in her bikini I almost threw up seeing her cottage cheese legs and her horrible gut. The job on Mr. Wong was pretty good as well. Besides the make up that was about it really.
The Plot / Script:
Boy meets girl, girl meets boy. Boy loses girl and goes with a mega bitch. Bitch makes boy’s life miserable until the girl returns. Girl has a lover, who cheats on her and is using her, and boy knows this. Over the next few days girl and boy become close. Bitch ruins any chances for them getting together. Girl wants to marry lover. Boy grows a pair of balls, dumps the bitch, reveals the lover’s true self and scores the girl.
Same old story we’ve all heard and seen time and time again. The only different in this movie was that Eddie Murphy played about 75% of the characters. Yes, I know three people in the movie don’t add up to 75% since there were tons more people in the movie. It’s a joke, a bad one, but still a joke. Basic plot, a badly written comedy, nothing more to say here really.
The Actors:
Eddit Murphy was a good actor and this movie is a shining example of how the mighty can fall… hard. I thought Norbit was annoying because he was made to look way too wimpy and Rasputia well, all Eddie did was prance around in a fat suit screaming “How YOU Doin!?” all the time. I think he did a pretty good job of Mr. Wong though but that’s about it.
Cuba Gooding Jr. should really stay the hell out of comedy movies. I don’t think he has been good in any comedy movie for that matter. He’s decent in drama movies but that’s about it. Everyone else in this movie just your typical average comedy actor who are there to support everyone else by making them all look good due to their badness.
Final Thoughts:
Like I said you watch this movie and you will cry as you remember how Eddie Murphy went from movies like Coming To America and Beverly Hills Cop to this movie. You will beg to ask why we all laughed at him during Raw and Delirious as you sit thought this movie not laughing at anything on the screen. Have the mighty have fallen and Mr. Murphy, I feel so sorry for you.
Oh don’t worry the only good thing about this movie is that it is not his worst movie. There’s a movie coming out shortly called Dave or something where Murphy plays, wait for it, a spaceship. Yup. If it is going to be anything like Pluto Nash – considered his worst movie ever made – it is going to be a huge stinker. I’ll be looking forward to that movie but for now, I think we all need to watch some old school Murphy movies and try to forget about horrors he has made like Norbit.
Until Monday Bucket Heads take care of yourselves and enjoy a fun, safe weekend.

Norbit!
When it came out, it was the highest grossing movie in Australia, which is a painful thought.

I think you ruined a perfectly good day by telling me Norbit was successful down here in Australia. I shall personally hunt down everyone who watched this movie and introduce them to the back of my hand.
I agree, the only reason why these good actors are doing these stupid movies now must involve a huge paycheck. Why else would Eddie get himself involved in such bad movies recently?

Someone ACTUALLY said that THIS movie was the re-emergence of old school Eddie? Or were you just joking? I hope you were because now that's another person I have to track down and back hand (the reviewer not you).
I didn't want to see this movie but this website has made me watch a whole bunch of crap movies I thought I would never end up seeing
