Lars & The Real Girl
April 25th 2008 13:26
Hello Bucket Heads. I hope my Aussie Brothers and Sisters are enjoying their long weekend as we remember those who fought for our nation in the wars that ravaged our world. It's a time for everyone be with family and friends and really enjoy life. That's what I have been doing and on Thursday night, I was in for quite an interesting treat.
I was meant to be heading over to the German Film Festival on Thursday Night with some friends but it turned out one of the movies they wanted to see wasn't going to be played. We canceled the plan which upset me a little bit since I was looking forward to going to my first ever film festival however, I instead got something a lot better.
We went to a small cinema on Lygon Street called Nova which play arthouse and independent movies. On the list of films screened was one titled "Lars & The Real Girl". I found out what this movie was about a few days before we went into the cinema. My friend told me basically what the movie was about and it sounded very bizarre indeed. I love a good weird movie so I went along with my friends last night and for two hours I had a damn good laugh.
The movie is about a shy, lonely guy called Lars who lives in the garage of his brother's house they both inherited when their father died years ago. His brother and his wife are concerned about Lars' personal life - he is a nice guy in their small community who doesn't have any friends but still loves life. One day Lars rushes to his brother and his wife telling them the good news about meeting a girl and he wanted to introduce them to her. They are very excited for him, and then completely knocked off their feet when he introduces them to Bianca - a latex sex doll.
Yes that is right Lars is going out with a sex doll. He thinks that the doll is a real person and treats it like it would a real person - dresses her, puts her to bed in his brother's guest room (both Lars and Bianca are old fashioned), and he even brings her to a workmate's party. Since Lars is going through this psychological moment his doctor tells his brother and sister-in-law to play along with it so they can find the root of the problem.
I won't say anymore because it was a very good movie and it was very well written and had some very good actors in it - Ryan Gosling doing a very good job as the title character (Lars not the sex doll). Some moments in this movie are so stupid it just makes you laugh to think something like this even happened. It's a fun movie and shows you how scary or weird (in a humorous way) it can be when someone you love things a sex doll is a real person.
The movie is worth a watch and I'm sure you'll get a good laugh out of it. That's my thoughts on this movie so I suggest you read this over and over since this will most likely be a rare moment that I make a post on a good movie.
Take care my Bucket Heads!

Bucket Movies
It's definitely a very good movie to catch if you can get a hold of it. I was lucky that it came out at that cinema which was pretty cool. I'll be heading back over to the place to see what other arthouse or independent movies they have out. Very good movie and sometimes you can't help laughing knowing that she is just a sex doll.
Cheers, and thanks for the comment!
