Get Rich or Die Tryin - Final Thoughts

He may wanna take you down to the candy shop but I wanna take this movie down to the bucket… shop. Alright I know that was bad but that’s the least of my problems. This movie sucked for a bunch of reasons so to wrap up this gangstah rubbish here are my Final Thoughts.
The Loathes:
Let’s just start off by stating the obvious: who the HELL would want to make a movie about 50 Cent? This movie was made about a few years after he became a success – well he’s more like a successful fart in that he left as quickly as he came and gave us something to remember him by. I guess it’s a good thing the director made this movie before 50 Cent’s popularity died down quicker than the Titanic sunk.
Here’s a thought: do you watch this movie and assume it’s some sort of biography about 50 Cent’s life or is this movie about a character whose life was based around 50 Cents? The answer: it doesn’t matter they both suck. If it’s a “biography” than it has to be the most bullshit story that I have ever heard about. 50’s life is played out to be like a movie and it was so typically Hollywood from start to finish. It was so sugar coated you had to think “Wow what a load of crap” at the majority of the scenes – including scenes where 50 is acting like a complete nice guy during an armed robbery. If you look at this as a movie well… you’ll be wondering why there are so many plot holes and laugh at how ridiculous most scenes are.
I love the message this movie gives to every young, suffering child out there – if all else fails you can always rely on drug selling to get you want you want in life. Great message Mr. 50, great damn message. If you’re thinking to yourselves that no kid would watch this movie you’re probably still living in the 1970’s or something. Kids today watch and listen to everything so of course they are going to watch this movie. I hope most parents beat the crap out of their kids for seeing just who they are listening to.
Something that bugged me throughout the whole movie was how 50’s face was shot up BEFORE the damn shooting even happened. He even sounded the same throughout the film and after he gets shot, he complains that his voice is all slurred now. I simple thing like having a voices dubbed would have solved that issue, and getting a good make-up artist team to patch those scars would have solved the other issue.
The Likes:
As sadistic as this sounds I enjoyed watching 50 Cent getting shot up. Then again I am a sucker for violence.
The Plot / Script:
A story about a young boy named Marcus who loses his crack dealing mother and decides to start dealing drugs to make a living. While dealing drugs over the years Marcus grows up to pursue his rapping career. He finds love, gets thrown in jail and kicks off his career as a successful gangster rapper.
As simple as it gets yet someone decided to make it a little more complicated than that. They threw in a bunch of crap like the whole gang civil war that I didn’t understand at all. There wasn’t a motive for Majestic to take over if he was pretty much the number two guy.
There were a lot of things that were never explained in the movie – one big example is why the hell Marcus (or 50 Cent since this movie is “based on his life”) wanted to rap in the first place? He never mentions once that rapping meant this to him or that to him – I would have been happy with some bullcrap like how rapping takes him away from the bad memories or something. It was like just “I’m Marcus, I rap for no reason” and that’s it.
The Actors:
The first thing I am going to say is that they should have seriously found someone else to play 50 Cent. Even Samuel L. Jackson agreed that 50 Cent should just stick to rapping and not acting – and because of this he turned down a role in the movie. Good on him damn it.
The only actor I enjoyed in that movie was the dude who played Majestic, since he played Adebesi in Oz – or Mr. Eko for you Lost fans. That guy was pretty cool but I swear at the start of the movie he is speaking with a normal “gangster” ascent but later he switches to that Adebesi voice. It might have been me thinking about how awesome Oz was while I tried to save myself as I watched this movie.
The other actors were pretty average and that’s all they were.
Final Thoughts:
I’m not a big 50 Cent fan as I mentioned but I am totally being un-bias here. I watched the movie as a normal movie and it did not impress me one bit. I will say this about the film that gives it some credit – it has to be the biggest propaganda movie since The Triumph of Will. I’ve never seen a film make someone look so good in my life.
50 Cent is not fooling anyone with his sugar coated life and I HATE what the director told him about the possibility of the movie flopping. He said, and I QUOTE “If this movie does not do well is it not that you have failed as an actor, but I have failed as a director,” END QUOTE! Can you believe the kiss ass job on this stooge!? It’s a shame since both of these idiots failed. Thank you 50 Cent, you’ve made a lovely addition to the Bucket.
I’m throwing this rubbish back with the other bad movies in my collect and may the memory of this movie be forgotten. Until next week Bucket Heads take care of yourselves and have a wonderful weekend.

I didn't want to watch this movie either until my friends, who came with me to find some crappy movies at our local video store, begged me to watch it. I sucked it up and I never want to watch another movie starring 50 Cent again. Terrible, just terrible...

I spoke to some friends who are big Fiddy fans and they didn't like the movie that much. I didn't know who he was and asked them if anything about the movie was true and they said a few things, like his drug dealing, jail time and how much he got shot up.
I think it was a bit too sugar coated for my liking. If we had seen a "real" movie about 50 I think it might involving him killing someone (not saying he did just a wild guess). Like I mentioned in the review, they aren't going to give everyone a real inside look at the man who is 50 as it would be a side that his lawyers would be dealing with in court.
