From Consoles to Hollywood - The Future?

The game plays out just like a movie with screwed up bad guys, kick ass good guys and an awesome storyline with some cool twists - but would a Metal Gear Solid movie actually be any good?
For the past few weeks we’ve been taking a look at a specific field within the movie business – video games that have been taken from their consoles and recreated onto the big screen. It has been a long journey and we’ve all experienced joy, laughter, happiness, misery, pain and death. We’ve looked at some of the best video game movies out there, we’ve looked at some of the worst video game movies out there, but what does the future hold? I’ve done a little research and here are some of the movies that are coming out soon or will begin production soon…
Far Cry.
This was a pretty crappy first person shooter about some guy who gets attacked while on his yacht near some remote islands. There’s some experiments going on and a whole bunch of crap. The game was boring so why am I mentioning this movie? Uwe Boll is directing it. Yup, another crappy video game is going to be turned into an even worst movie all thanks for Mr. Boll’s magic.
Metal Gear Solid.
When I heard this was going to become a movie, I prayed that Uwe Boll wouldn’t direct it. When Uwe Boll was telling everyone he had a script and it was in the works, I paniced and almost killed myself. Lucky Konami was quick to reply stating that if a movie was made, they would never get Boll to ruin it. I’m glad to know Konami knows this and a Metal Gear Solid movie is in the works. It’s weird though since the game is pretty much played out like a movie. We’ll see how it goes, it should be pretty good if done right.
If the planned Sims movie gets the green light, I'm hoping they have one screwed up neighbourhood full of morons and freaks, like in my game.
The Sims.
I used to be hooked onto this game when it was out but after the 17th expansion came out for the second Sims game, I was starting to get over it. So apparently someone decided that making a movie about someone’s well… life… is going to make for a good movie. It looks like we’re going to be getting a two hour version of Big Brother or something if this movie ever comes out. It could be worst… someone might make their life in the game then magically get sucked into it like Tron.
Warcraft.
The massively popular MMO is going to be turned into a live-action film down the road. Who wants to make a bet it’s going to be something along the lines of Lord of the Rings? Don’t get me wrong I loved playing Warcraft and I enjoy World of Warcraft but a movie? I think it could be done well if they followed the awesome storylines in the games but they’ll some how manage to make it too similar to Lord of the Rings by botching up the storyline some how. As long as Uwe Boll isn’t directing this, it shouldn’t be too bad.
There’s a heap more games that are being turned into movies as I type this. There’s a few dozen more I could have mentioned but I don’t want to be here all day so instead, I figured I might mention a few video games that Hollywood should definitely take a look at…
A Donkey Kong movie would kinda be like King Kong - only Donkey would be hurling barrels all over the place.
Donkey Kong.
They could make two different types of movies from this. The first one could be based off the old arcade video game from the 1980s. The hero must rescue his girlfriend from the giant ape and no it wouldn’t be like King Kong because King Kong doesn’t throw massive barrels. They could make another movie based off the awesome Super Nintendo game with Donkey Kong and his little pal Diddy Kong set off to fight those Crocodile creatures who stole their bananas. I think it would make a pretty good animated movie.
Final Fight.
Now here would be a kick ass movie with a base plot filled with tons of action. If you’re not familiar with this game it was made by Capcom and it involved you picking Hagger, Cody or Guy and you went around Metro City beating the crap out of everyone in sight. The movie would follow the same storyline – a gang kidnaps the Mayor’s (Hagger’s) daughter who is Cody’s girlfriend so they drag Guy along to get her back. The movie will feature the three beating up corrupt cops, freaks, women and the leader of the gang, who is a cripple in a wheelchair. Hey I’m not making this up that was actually in the video game.
Mega Man.
Now here is a classic that should be turned into a live-action movie. Mega Man was a MASSIVE franchise launched by Capcom that has over twenty games in its series. There was Mega Man 1 – 9, then Mega Man X1 – X8 and let’s not forget other titles like Mega Man Soccer and Mega Man 64. The movie would be about a robot called Mega Man going around kicking the asses of the bad robots put together by Dr. Wily. They could also base it off the X series which was a lot darker. After a while everyone will get sick of Mega Man movies like everyone got sick of the Mega Man games when Capcom started running out of ideas for robots. Let’s pray we don’t get Flower Man or Electric Sponge in the movies.
It's a classic game that everyone knows and has played while sitting on the toilet, so why not make Tetris a movie?
Tetris.
How could we forget the game!? How come they haven’t turned this awesomeness into a movie!? How can they turn this into a movie you say? It’s simple – alien invasion! The story would take place in the present world where everyone is living happily and peacefully until one day, a dreadful and chilling melody echoes throughout the world. Everyone is confused and worried and the terror begins when gigantic blocks from outer space begin to slam down into the Earth! It’s up to a crack team of scientists who develop a large beam that pushes the blocks together into rows and zaps them after forming a complete line. It’s genius!
Wonder Boy.
I was a MASSIVE fan of the Wonder Boy series on the old Sega Master System and I think it would make a cool movie. By that, I mean I want them to make this movie just for me I don’t care if it flops or not, I want a damn Wonder Boy movie! They could base it off the first game where Wonder Boy runs around, hurling axes at people and eating fruit as he saves his girlfriend from evil. It could give a good message to all the youth – eat healthy, get plenty of exercise and if someone tries to f*** with you or your girlfriend, take them out with a good axe! If they were to base the movie off Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap would be pretty cool as well. In that game, Wonder Boy get cursed by a dragon after he defeats the large beast causing him to turn into various man-animals, from a Man-Lion to a Man-Mouse. It was a pretty kick ass game and would make an interesting movie, for me at least.
I’ll be concluding this series on video game movies next week but until then I’d like to ask this question – what video games would you like to see be turned into a movie?

I just watched the Max Payne trailer and it looks like a clone of Sin City. I haven't played the game, I know it's meant to be a pretty good game, so I'm not sure how the movie is going to be compared to it.
As for Prince of Persia I'm not sure how that is going to turn out - never really played the game much when it was out. I played a recent version on it on the PS2 version a few years back and it was interesting, so we'll see how it goes as a movie.
